Leticia Martinez
When life fails you, reflect, learn from your experiences, and keep moving forward. At only 29 years of age I became a widow. I was left with three young children ages 6,8, and 12. Within a short twelve-month period of time I lost my business, my home, and my husband. Alone, devastated, bankrupt and emotionally stressed I was faced with many decisions to make. Not only my future but also the future of my children’s lives depended on these decisions.
Going on welfare was not an option for me. Instead I took a full time position with the local school district. A year later I opened a part time business consisting of income tax and notary service. My ultimate goal at the time was to own my own home again. Within two years I was able to purchase a beautiful new four bedroom single story home.
Although I had a descent position in my full time job, and good benefits, I was not fulfilled. I wanted to be independent, own a full time business again, and be able to better provide for my children.
In search of a business opportunity, from 1999 to 2004, I read a few books, and attended several business seminars. My goal was to be able to quit my full time job and be self-employed full time.
With little investment and risk, I have made over $450,000.00 combined equity in a short eight months.
Through our Community Outreach Division, I want to reach out to the community. I want to empower churches and non-profit organizations to be self-sustained, and expand their organizations. As Associate Director of the Women’s Outreach Committee I will reach out to other widows and single parents to be able to accomplish their financial and career goals. As Director of Latin Affairs I will reach out to the Hispanic Community and assist my people in achieving their dreams.
